Press Release

On Feb. 6, 2010,Don Gallery proudly presents a group exhibition by six artists. Led by two of the gallery's good friends Dong Weisheng and Maleonn and joined by new artists like Liu Ren, Mou Hoo and two foreign female artists Lore Vanelslande and Alina Cyranek, the six artists will use their exceptional artworks to explore the language and connotation of modern art.
Both of Dong Wenshen and Maleonn use photographic works as the media to create and express their deep thoughts into life and society. Dong Wenshen's images conveys a strong south Chinese culture. One of his representative works shown today, The Moment of Stone Sinking, No 3, is a metaphor of the crisis of traditional culture and a deflection of his thoughts into modern civilization. Another piece of work, Butterfly Dream, shows a mysterious and supernatural aesthetic characteristic. The work "If the life is a dream, would you like to wake up?" by Maleonn was the artist's first attempt of independent art creation in 2004, which is very valuable and meaningful from nowadays perspective.
The four new artists have brought with them their newly created work pieces in 2009. Liu Ren uses a fragile texture in his English on Shells series to put forward his attention on individuals under the impact of globalization. Lore Vanelslande from Belgium again uses her utmost patience to paint delicate patterns in traditional Chinese water ink, showing her preciseness and private experience. Mou Hoo is a very diligent artist, and this is the first time that her unique works in synthetic material and gum plate are shown in public. Alina Cyranek, a new female German director is presenting two impressive works, a 4 minute fiction and a 14 minute documentary.
